Amazing Mesa Verde

Tuesday morning I got up and rode my scooter 71 miles down every road in Mesa Verde National Park. It was a gorgeous day with spectacular views. The first 10 miles of the park were under construction, but all the others were perfect. I stayed right in the park at the Morefield campground. Needless to say, it's a very remote area and I had no internet or cell phone access. So this blog is a little behind.

Mesa Verde is the site of cliff dwellings of the ancestral Puebloans. It’s amazing to think of living in such a structure high on the side of a cliff. I can’t even imagine it. No carpeting, and no air conditioning. lol

Each room was built upon another. The workmanship put into them was amazing. The estimate of contruction is late 1190 to 1270, and they are still standing today!

Here you can even see the old smoke stains on the rocks from their fires.

An unfinished temple

Tomorrow, it's off to Moab to see the Arches!
